8th Grade Field Trip to Blue Hills on October 9

Dear 8th-grade families,


We are happy to announce the first 8th-grade field trip! The entire 8th-grade class will travel to the Blue Hills Reservation for a day of hiking, adventuring, and connecting with their classmates and teachers. The goals are for students to strengthen their ties to their learning community and to build their ability to persist through challenges, both physical and mental. 

    

When:  Friday, October 9 (rain date Wednesday, October 14) from  8:00 am to 2:00 pm

Where: Blue Hills Reservation, Milton, MA

Mode of transportation: Local Motion Bus


The trip will be chaperoned by WMS Staff, including a school nurse, and WMS parents. 


Blue Hills Field Trip Expectations: 

  • 8th-grade field trips are not optional because they are part of the 8th-grade curriculum. 

  • Wear clothes and footwear for the outdoors.  Check the weather the day before!  Dress in layers, including waterproof outerwear.  Acceptable shoes are sneakers or hiking boots. 

  • Bring plenty of water and your own lunch and snacks (from home or a grab-and-go from the cafeteria).  

  • Each student must stay with a hiking partner for the entire day.  


Permission: 

  • The permission form is available through this Permission Form link or on the Cluster 6 Google Classroom 

  • The permission form is due Friday, October 2nd.


Field Trip Payment: $22

If you would like to round up to $25 or make a further donation, we will gratefully accept donations to help cover the cost for families needing assistance.

  • Payment options are:

    • Online payment using the link below

    • Check payable to “City of Watertown” 

    • Money order

    • Cash (no change available)

    • Request a scholarship (contact Mrs. Skypeck, Gr 8 Guidance Counselor, for more information at amanda.skypeck@watertown.k12.ma.us)

  • Payment is due by Friday, October 2nd.


Chaperones:

We are looking for a few parent chaperones to assist with this trip. To chaperone, your CORI form must be submitted and approved in advance. Email your child’s science teacher to express interest in this:
