In late January, 8th grader Dominique Aclo represented Watertown at the Project 351 Launch Day!
Founded in 2011, Project 351 brings together student leaders from each of the 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts. These student leaders, known as Ambassadors, come together for a year dedicated to leadership and community service. Their mission is to transform their communities, promote kindness, advocate for social justice, and develop the courage, compassion, and skills necessary to drive change.
As each Ambassador participates in a service campaign, they will receive training and mentorship to help them execute their service project in their local area. In the spring, they will collaborate with Cradles to Crayons to support children facing economic hardships and homelessness. Then, to honor military personnel and veterans, they will contribute to the Mass Military Heroes Fund at Home Base. Finally, during the fall, the Ambassadors will assist local food pantries.
Congratulations to Dominique, and best wishes for her impactful journey this year.

EASTERN JUNIOR ORCHESTRA FESTIVAL
|
Last weekend, students from the Boston/Greater Boston Area auditioned to be a part of the Eastern District Junior Orchestra Festival. Over 200 students auditioned for this competitive orchestra, including two of our 8th grade students, Asher Kain (cello) and Miriam Ward (violin), who are now part of the 100 students selected to participate! The auditions for these ensembles are incredibly competitive and they have worked very hard to be accepted. Congratulations to both Asher and Miriam for this significant achievement!

Earlier this week, Superintendent Galdston sent out this newsletter about the 5E's Parent/Caregiver Survey.
Students, teachers, and families have the opportunity to share their thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness as part of this survey about our school. We would greatly appreciate any feedback you have to offer!
Click here for the Parent/Caregiver Survey and here for the Student Survey (students will need their student ID which can be found in PowerSchool)

Per State mandate, 5th to 9th grade students must be screened by the school nurse for scoliosis each year. This year, however, screenings will only take place for those students whose parents/guardians opt-into the program. For more details, please read this letter from our nurse coordinator, Jennifer Thermenos.

This is an important reminder that student drop off is ONLY on Bemis Street. Our main entrance, on Waverley Ave, is only used for our busses. If you try to drop your student off at our main entrance, you will be redirected to Bemis Street. Please do not drop off your student on Waverley Ave, as this causes traffic.
In addition, please respect our teachers who assist with drop off in the morning. The safety of our teachers, students, and community members are of the utmost importance.
We appreciate your cooperation!
