Principal's Letter

Dear Watertown Middle School Community,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year at Watertown Middle School!! It is going to be a different year, but I am very excited to begin my third year as principal, and I am looking forward to continuing to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, parents/guardians, and the Watertown community throughout the school year on academics, social/emotional learning, extracurricular activities and community service. Together we will thrive in a rigorous, supportive, and positive environment where all students will have the opportunity to succeed and pursue their many interests, despite the challenges we are all facing as the school year begins.

We have been working hard over the summer, and in the first 13 days of professional development, to prepare for the upcoming year and ensure it is a successful one for all. Please take some time to read the handbook over with your child(ren) as it contains a great deal of helpful information. Although much of it is filled with rules, procedures and policies, I hope you see that much of it revolves around the SOARS principles: Success, Ownership, Achievement, Respect and Service. SOARS is the Watertown Middle School recipe for success. There are a few sections that are not as applicable this year with our remote and hybrid learning, but the COVID handbook addendum should address those areas more in depth.

One critical ingredient for success is communication between home and school. We must partner together to focus on the well-being and education of the children of Watertown Middle School. Please reach out to us with any questions or concerns, and we will do the same. If you are not sure who to call, please see the Communication chart on pp. 42-43. With consistent collaboration, we will be able to ensure that all students feel safe, supported, and prepared for learning.

The 2020-2021 school year at Watertown Middle School is sure to be a year of extraordinary and rewarding experiences for all. I am looking forward to seeing everyone again in September over Zoom, and hearing about your summer adventures. We will work together both remotely and in the hybrid model to continue our learning and growing throughout the school year. Let’s all have a wonderful year together!

All my best,

Donna Martin, C.A.G.S.
